SHE-DEMONS OF THE
BLACK SUN
(2006)
***WARNING: HEAVY SPOILER BELOW***
Wow.... just... wow. After watching SV Bell's latest film, She-Demons of the
Black Sun I have to say that the world of exploitation films and the rape &
revenge subgenre will never be the same. I have seen things in this film that
almost defy a PG-rated explanation, but I'll do my best. She-Demons is the
twisted tale of an innocent girl named Isabelle that gets drugged and deflowered
by four horny macho-men. Unluckily for these guys, Isabelle has some experience
in the dark arts and swears allegiance to Satan in return for revenge. After
calling up (a busty female version of) Old Scratch, Isabelle is granted with
four sexy demons to do her bidding. It's here that things get pretty crazy and
the movie gets really fun! (Truthfully, the first half hour was pretty dull,
especially when there weren't any breasts on the screen.)
Each demon systematically seduces and captures each of Isabelle's rapists and
then brings them to what I like to call the "dark dungeon of despair" (i.e. a
colorfully lit basement set). The first rapist gets off fairly easy considering
what happens to the rest as he (Dominic) is bludgeoned with a small sledgehammer
by Isabelle, then eaten alive by the demons. The second fellow (Ronald)....
uh... well... has his manhood cut off with a butcher knife. Afterwards, Isabelle
takes the freshly removed "johnson" and ass-rapes the guy with it before the
demons have at him. (Yes you read that correctly, she cut off his schlong and
stuffed it in his arse! OUCH!) The third fellow (didn't quite catch his name)
gets a few whacks with a hammer and then is attacked by a demon snake. (Phallic
symbol anyone?) At this point, I wasn't sure how SV Bell and friends could top
what I had just witnessed; in fact it seemed impossible.
I was still reeling from "Ronald the rapist's" death when I was suddenly
assaulted with a pretty f*cked up torture scene. The final rapist (Big Dan) gets
the worst of it without a doubt! Dan is pinned to a wall by a demon and then
cursed with a giant, bleeding vagina running vertically down his chest! (Just
let that sink in for a minute.) Isabelle strolls up with her left arm aglow and
suddenly it morphs into.... an enormous penis! (Again, let that sink in for a
bit... then move on.) As if I need to tell you what happens here, Isabelle rams
the mighty demon rod home and chest-rapes Big Dan for quite a while. With her
revenge ended, Isabelle discovers that she should've read the fine print when
she made a deal with the devil, and now she must collect souls for the rest of
her natural life. There is an additional twist at the end that temporarily
confused me (I understand if fully now in case you were wondering), but I'll let
you watch and figure out for yourself if (or when) you watch this flick.
She-Demons of the Black Sun is an exploitation film, plain and simple that
successfully mixes the rape & revenge film genre with supernatural horror. The
main attractions here are the beautiful girls, their beautiful breasts, and the
over-the-top gore & violence, which this film delivers by the truckload. While
it did take some effort for me to sit through the first third of this movie
(thank god for all that female nudity), She-Demons had my complete attention
mere moments after poor Isabelle gets raped and begins her hellish revenge. The
death of each rapist is just plain insane and I couldn't take my eyes away from
the penile-carnage that played out before me. (The horror! The HORROR!) So, if
films like I Spit on Your Grave, Last House on the Left, and Evil Dead are your
cup of tea, then you'll more than likely enjoy She-Demons of the Black Sun.
(Finally, something good comes out of Canada!)
She-Demons is currently available for purchase on DVD over at its official
homepage at www.svbell.com and you can choose from two different DVD covers (the
comic one is definitely my fave)! The disc itself is a pretty bare bones affair
and the only extra features are trailers for She-Demons of the Black Sun as well
trailers for SV Bell's Purple Glow and The Night they Returned.

SHE DEMONS OF THE BLACK SUN - SvBell avec Isabelle Stephen, Melantha
Blackthorne, Suzi Lorraine, Kerri Taylor, Marie-Claire Benoit, Penelope

Popular culture has taught me some valuable lessons in my life. Never feed a
mogwai after midnight, don’t tug on Superman’s cape or spit in the wind, and
certainly don’t mess around with Slim. Another truism came my way this weekend
from director SV Bell – never, ever gang-rape a girl familiar with the black
arts. The legal and moral issues that arise are the least of your worries.
Here’s the skinny; four male friends from The Black Sun bar spend their weekends
hanging out and sucking down beers. No big deal, right? Their hobby takes a dark
turn late in the evening however when they spike the drink of an unsuspecting
young lady, wait for the drugs to kick in, then pass her around like an
inflatable sheep at a shepherd’s convention.
As great plans oft times do however, this one turns to crap when they rape
Isabelle (the great Isabelle Stephen). The next day, she pieces together the
events of the night before, and is none too pleased when she realizes these four
dirtbags had their way with her.
Like so many ex-pagans before, she calls on her black arts to conjure up a
wicked female devil (a heavily made-up, but still oddly alluring Melantha
Blackthorne, me-ow!). For the low, low price of the guilty souls, the devil
offers Isabelle some much needed revenge, giving her some badass occult powers
and some She-Demons to do the leg-work.
I wasn’t familiar with she-demons before this film, but if they’re all hot
bisexual killing machines, I say we need more of them!
What ensues is some sexy, gory fun! Isabelle and her demonic lusty assistants
carve up and bludgeon the rapists in some seriously vile, yet somewhat arousing
ways, saving the most gruesome for the bar owner, who is introduced to the
horrible world of the “grudge f*ck”.
I learned of the grudge f*ck in 1986 from a friend of a friend named Geoff.
While claiming to never have participated, he did know of someone who had.
Essentially, the guy with a grudge against a woman screws her six ways to
Sunday, then to top it off, slashes her abdomen and has sex with the wound. Yes,
it’s gross, I’m not claiming to have invented it for Pete’s sake!
Isabelle takes it to the extreme though, magically turning her arm into a giant
man-stick and humping a huge gut-wound until the brink of death. I warned you it
was gross!
“She-Demons” was a fun watch, and addressed some of our previous gripes about
Bell’s work. The pacing issues were gone, now scenes that previously turned into
4 minute music videos were still gory, just a lot shorter. Kudos! There’s also a
nice twist at the end that I never would have predicted, adding to the appeal of
the film.
I was impressed with Isabelle Stephen’s work in the film especially. There were
a couple of scenes where she was alone, with no lines, but was still able to
show emotion and communicate with the viewer. Bravo my devil lovin’ vigilante,
bravo.
Another high point for me was the sound. Normally a hindrance in low budget
movies, the sound effects and score were absolutely top notch. The overall story
and CGI work were above par as well. Well…let me expound on the effects a bit
actually…
There’s a line where too many effects are not a good thing, and “She-Demons”
crossed it twice in my opinion. Early in the film, when the soon-to-be molesters
are at the bar, the amount of people walking by their table (and about every
third one “wipes” the scene to a different camera angle) was a bit much. The
crowded dance floor clued me in that the bar was busy – I get it.
Then, later in the film, there’s an effects serpent that made me cringe, and not
because of the realism. I think this snake was a backup singer for “The Rainbow
Connection” in one of the Muppets’ Christmas specials. It got a groan out of me,
and luckily the scene was so fast that I was back to digging the film in mere
seconds.
The actresses were all hot, Bell certainly has an eye for this, but with makeup
effects, they were also gruesome…which I commend him for. All too often someone
sticks some horns on a good looking model and leaves it up to the viewer to make
believe they’re evil. Not here buddy, no matter how hot the actress is (even
Suzi Lorraine hot) without makeup, they were definitely most unholy here.
Can I recommend “She-Demons”? Absolutely, if you’re a gore fan. This is no
Lifetime movie about empowerment. It’s rough, violent, sexually charged, bloody
and twisted, kind of like my ex-girlfriend. If you’re a sick bastard like me, go
pick it up. Despite the minor flaws, and for having a generous amount of
girl-on-girl action, it’s a solid 3 ½ cans out of 5.
Cinephalia

There are many, many reasons independent horror doesn’t have the following it
had just ten years ago. Many reasons exist to why this genre’ doesn’t fly off of
the shelves of the local video store or out of a distributors warehouse. Usually
indie horrors suffer from a lack of originality, beat gimmicks, and reality
tvesque acting. By looking at the artwork for “She Demons of The Black Sun” one
could easily dismiss it as having the faults above.
Like all things though, it’s not the box that matters. It’s what’s in the box.
And what’s in the box here is a very innovation horror film. Think of “I Spit On
Your Grave”, now think of Satan. Now think of Satan retelling “I Spit On Your
Grave” to his sons. “She Demons of The Black Sun” is what I feel that story
would be like. It’s a story of rape and revenge with a dash of black magic. By
taking an age-old revenge story and tossing that ingredient in I would have to
say this film has now become original. However my friend it doesn’t stop
there…there’s plenty more.
What would a horror be without some really nice nudity? Fuck that, let’s get it
out in the open….tiddies! Big giant tiddies. Everywhere. I don’t know if I
should write this or not, but the opening 10 minutes of this movie were as
erotic as anything I have seen on the Internet in recent months. I really
thought I was going to have to hit the pause button and take a 5 minute bathroom
break. I made it though and just as my engines cooled….Demon Lesbian Orgy. I
think I would actually let these creatures kill me just to get into that mix.
But hey, what am I doing…this is a horror review. Not a cry for help.
The film itself does suffer in a few areas. The first is that better props are
needed. Then again, what would gore be without some ridiculous props. Second the
story is good enough on it’s own without having to add a psychiatrist twist. I
would have preferred if it had of been straight revenge. Lastly, the character
Isabelle could have done without the exchange student story and accent. She’s a
gorgeous girl and I felt like this may have held her back. The rest of the
actors in the film did great, but for some reason I felt like she was a little
behind. She’s not horrible, she’s at a C when she could have easily been at A-.
“She Devils of The Black Sun” will not let fans of horror down. I will guarantee
when you see this film nothing in your wildest imagination can prepare you for
the final killing. I’m actually surprised someone thought that up much less
brought it film. With it’s humorous dialogue and quality gore it’s a winner in
the indie horror genre’.

Article: Well there's no black sun to speak of, but there are plenty of dark,
evil things a happening during SV Bell's latest feature...
Canada's low budget filmmaker SV Bell is known for "Purple Glow" among other low
budget features. "She Demons" is an entertaining, and low budget flick that
shows some evidence of being shot on video or Mini DV. That being said, most of
the scenes are well lit, and the compositions are good.
The "She Demon" or lady-devil features very well done costuming and makeup. She
really is quite a site for a low budget film, however, the lighting during her
scenes is "high." Unfortunately, in my humble opinion this gives the wrong
impression when one considers the movies dark mood. The lighting during her
scenes would be more appropriate for horror-satire, like what you see in the
"Chucky" films or Buffy the Vampire TV series. But don't get me wrong, it's not
horribly distracting.
Overall, it's a very entertaining film, there's plenty of sexy-scenes, which by
the way are border line soft-porn (tongue on a nipple). Special effects are
interesting, in particular is a scene wherein bloody-gue twists and transforms
into several girl demons. I do however wish that this video effect appeared to
be more within the film, rather than on-top of the video. This is hard to
describe, but let me just say that when using (low budget) post-special-effects
a subtle transparency can be applied to fool the audience into "seeing" the
effect as one within the scene, rather than something that was produced during
the editing process.
I hope to see more of SV's films, I admire the fact that he continues to produce
movies, and evidently, he's making enough money to replicate and release his
movies on DVD, rather than a homeburned DVD-R.

(from the FanTasia program book)
Isabelle knows the Black Sun isn’t the classiest joint in town, but just how
vile the club is only becomes clear to her after she’s been drugged and raped.
She’ll certainly get sweet, bloody revenge for what’s been done to her, but not
without the help of the forces of darkness – a crew of sexy but utterly demonic
vamps from the pits of hell! Responsible for such low-budget zingers as Purple
Glow and The Night They Returned, producer/director Sv Bell has unquestionably
outdone himself with She-Demons Of The Black Sun, in every respect – the
lighting is delicious, the camerawork ambitious and the makeup and special
effects genuinely inspired!

SHE-DEMONS OF THE
BLACK SUN
(2006)
***WARNING: HEAVY SPOILER BELOW***
I don’t really know what to say about this one. I’ve seen my fair share of
horror from Canada, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but not usually so perplexing
as this. Sv Bell is back with another horror entry: She Demons of the Black Sun.
It may help you to know that there are indeed She Demons in this movie, and they
are “of the black sun” because that is the name of the club that they are
summoned to.
I’m not sure if you would call this a straight horror film, it seems to blur the
lines and also run off into exploitation and revenge, and psychological
thriller…somehow all of this is accomplished without things going too far
astray.
A young woman starts work at The Black Sun, she is a witch of some sort and is
supposed to be from Sweden, I think, though her accent jumps back and forth
between normal, French and something that sounds vaguely Russian but never quite
Swede, oh well. No matter, after being charmed by the club owners they slip her
a drug and one by one they rape her…yep…here comes the revenge with a twist.
Once she wakes up and realizes what happened she breaks her promise to her
mother by summoning the demons. A pact is made and a gaggle of sexy she-demons
arrive to help exact revenge.
And WHAT revenge it is! It seems some guys get off easier than others though I’m
not sure why. There are stabbings and some great bludgeoning of course, but then
there’s the WEIRD stuff: a severed penis attached to a knife and used to fuck a
guy in the ass…with his own dick! And super weird stuff like a giant hole put in
a man’s stomach, turning it into a vagina, and somehow through demon magic the
girl’s arm turns into a giant penis…you can guess what happens from there.
Really beyond the revenge pieces that’s all there is to it, there’s a bit at the
end with a psychologist hearing her story but that actually gets really annoying
for me, taking away from the mayhem I’d much rather be watching. If you’re
looking for something a little different in the revenge sub-genre and you want
to watch hot she-demons doing bad things to bad boys, then please check out She
Demons from the Black Sun as well as other goodies from Sv at http://www.svbell.com
Oh those whacky Canadians.
Horror Asylum
http://www.horror-asylum.com/frameset.asp?page=http%3A//www.horror-asylum.com/database/reviews.asp%3Fitem%3D4748
Sv Bell returns with his latest indie horror effort and it’s a refreshing tale
of revenge.
Isabelle Stephen stars as Isabelle, a foreign student who is gang raped after
her new friends spike her drink in a club called The Black Sun. It soon
transpires that the bar staff have done this before and have been getting away
with it. The biggest mistake the guys made was doing it to a student of the
black arts. Isabelle soon calls on the vengeful She Demons and exacts her bloody
revenge in all manner of grisly ways.
The film looks good for a low budget indie flick, which can’t have been easy as
there are lots of scenes shot in the club, and I can only imagine the lighting
headaches.
The cast are all familiar on the indie scene and do great jobs, and it was nice
to see a low budget movie with clear vision and audible audio.
The film is a tad slow in places but it was really refreshing compared to most
of the crap I’ve seen lately and it was truly inventive with its death scenes,
with one variation on rape in particular springing to mind.
OVERALL SUMMARY
Sv Bell has done Canadian horror fans proud. I just wish there was more of this
kind of filmmaking going on in the indie scene.
DVD Ressurection
http://dvdresurrections.com/MovieReview_SheDemonsOfTheBlackSun.html
After being rather impressed by my first viewing of an S.V. Bell film (The Night
They Returned) when the opportunity came up to have a crack at his latest effort
I accepted, knowing that if his style had carried through between the time he
made TNTR and this film, that I was going to be in for a treat.
And well quite frankly She Demons of the Black Sun lived up to my expectations.
Not having the updated, old school Grindhouse feel of TNTR was a slight
disappointment, but that aside S.V. has crafted another wicked little indie
production.
Isabelle (Isabelle Stephen) is a foreign student now living in Montreal.
Isabelle hasn’t been living there very long and the only friend she has made so
far is Big Dan, owner of a local night club called The Black Sun. One night
while out partying at the club, Big Dan and some of friends decide to take
advantage of Isabelle and slip a date rape pill in her drink. Isabelle then
leaves the club before promptly passing out in the street where she is viciously
gang raped by Big Dan and 3 of his friends. However Isabelle is so out of it she
doesn’t know what’s going on until the next morning when she wakes up in her own
bed
and starts to have flashbacks.
Isabelle heads down to the club to find out what exactly is going on, and when
Big Dan tells her to piss off she does what everyone does…. goes home, has a
black magic ritual and summons The Dark One to extract her revenge!! However
this isn’t the first time Isabelle and her family have used The Dark One’s
special powers as we learn that Isabelle’s family is dead because they have
previously betrayed The Dark One (who in this case is female, played by Melantha
Blackthorne). The Dark One decides to help out Isabelle in exchange for the
rapists souls, and when Isabelle agrees to the conditions
set The Dark One summons up 4 of the hottest, sexually rabid, undead Demons to
ever grace celluloid!
The demons start of slowly by luring the rapists one at a time into the fiery
depths of a basement! It is here that the victims are killed off, starting with
rather mundane by the numbers murders and slowly working there way up to the
absolutely brilliant killing of Big Dan. Big Dan’s death starts off when a big
Vagina splits straight down the middle of his stomach. Meanwhile Isabelle’s arm
has turned into a huge Cock and she violently fucks Big Dan’s newly formed gash
with it!
And then another twist to the film, Isabelle has been locked in a nuthouse and
the whole story is playing out as she is repeating it to a psychiatrist, who
doesn’t believe a word she says, until Isabelle gets very stroppy with him and
starts talking in an almost Death Metal vocal style!
Utilizing mostly the same cast and crew from previous effort, The Night They
Returned, S.V. Bell really has come onto his own with both efforts. Although
TNTR, and indeed SDOTBS, may have been slightly derivative story wise, on screen
they have a real freshness about them that makes them stand out leaps and bounds
above the majority of Indie films. Make no mistake this is still very low budget
territory, but S.V. Bell manages to make the film look big, despite its
budgetary and location restraints.
Extremely worthy of a watch, She Demons of the Black Sun has a distinct flavour
of its own, but also serves up all the good ‘ol stuff that make horror movies
worth watching. You know exactly what I mean, blood, gore, inventive deaths, hot
chicks in various states of undress etc…
